Subject: Committee on Accreditation Issues

As I noted in a previous communication, Sherra Kerns, Senior Past
President of NEEDHA and a member of the Board of Directors, is
Chairman of the Committee on Accreditation Issues.  In addition to
Sherra, the committee members are Barry Farbrother of Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology, John Orr of Worcester Polytechnic
Institute, Paul Penfield of the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, Roger Webb of the Georgia Institute of Technology, and
Ed Ernst of the University of South Carolina.  The plan of the
committee is to take on projects and invite members to join ad hoc
committees to accomplish these projects (each project will involve
at least one member of the standing committee).  In this way, the
membership can participate, and the BoDs will be able to maintain
continuity and coordination of actions.

The charge to this committee is to address accreditation ISSUES. 
Althought this does not restrict the committee's activities just to
ABET Criteria 2000, ABET Criteria 2000 has created some of the most
burning issues at the present time.  Needless to say, ABET Criteria
2000 will be the focus of much of what the committee addresses in
the near future.

The Committee on Accreditation Issues requests both your input and
assistance.  Please contact Sherra immediately if you wish to
participate in this most important function.  Also note that the
program for the upcoming annual meeting in Hawaii (March 1998) will
have a large portion dedicated to ABET Criteria 2000.
