Subject: New NEEDHA e-mail list now working

[Probably you received this message last month, followed quickly]
[by a note from me saying "forget it -- this new system does not]
[ work correctly." Well, now it does, so just make believe you ]
[ never saw those earlier messages. Sorry about the confusion. ]

Hi. Most of you will receive two copies of this message but you only
have to read one of them. It is being sent to both the old and new
NEEDHA e-mail lists.

As you know, IEEE has for several years maintained an e-mail list
of department heads. We all use it to communicate with our fellow
NEEDHA members. This has been an important service rendered by
IEEE and we are grateful to them for it. However, you may not have
been aware that this list was somewhat awkward for the NEEDHA staff
to maintain, and it was sometimes out of date.

I am pleased to report that effective immediately, there is a
replacement for this list. The new list is automatically generated
from the NEEDHA on-line directory, and therefore stays up to date
as a by-product of the maintenance of that directory.

From now on, merely send a message to "members@needha.org" and
it will be forwarded to the list. Use this new address rather
than the old one, "needha-chairs@ieee.org". (The old list will
continue to work for a while.)

If you only get one copy of this message it may be because you are
on the old IEEE list but are not in the current on-line directory.
Or vice versa. In either case, if the directory information is not
right you should edit your department's entry at your first chance.
If the directory information is right but the now-obsolete IEEE
list is wrong, you don't have to do anything.

If you are not a department chair but want to be on the new list,
you have to specifically ask. Simply send a note to Kathy Ricker,
kricker@iec.org.

If you do not want to have your e-mail address appear in this new
list, you can so request. Complete directions are on the NEEDHA
Web site, at "http://www.needha.org/email-list.html".

I think this new list will work well for us all. Please contact
me with any questions or comments.

Best regards.

...../Paul Penfield
      Senior Past President, NEEDHA
