President's Welcome

Welcome to NEEDHA's Fifteenth Annual Meeting in Destin, Florida!

This meeting includes a variety of activities that will both inform and entertain you. Before the meeting officially begins, you can choose to learn more about preparing for an EC2000 accreditation evaluation by registering for an ABET Evaluator Workshop to be held on Friday, March 5. New insights may be gained by participating in the New Chairs' Workshop, scheduled for Friday, March 5, at 5:00 p.m. An opportunity is provided for regional groups of departments to meet on Saturday morning, March 6, before the NEEDHA meeting officially starts.

This year the NEEDHA annual meeting seeks to meet your needs through three facets of activities:

1. A session on technology futures. This session focuses on areas of emerging scientific interest that are expected to have tremendous impact on the practice of electrical engineering in the future. Such areas include biology and optics.
2. A session on education futures highlighting new developments and trends in education delivery.
3. Sessions that provide you with the best information available to help you adapt your educational program to meet its objectives within the EC2000 criteria framework.
4. Parallel breakout sessions on a variety of timely topics including the following:
   • Graduate student recruitment
   • Faculty recruitment
   • Financial support for graduate students
   • Issues relating to the interplay between EE and CS
   • ABET evaluations

These breakout sessions have been very popular in previous meetings. The findings and conclusions reached during each breakout session will be summarized for all attendees when the meeting-at-large reconvenes.

The Open Forum will again provide ample opportunity for any attendee to interact with others on virtually any topic that may be of interest to a department head.

The site selected for this meeting offers another terrific location where you can relax with friends and exchange ideas and viewpoints.
