Jon Bredeson

Jon G. Bredeson is Chair and Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering retiring in August 2007. He is currently Professor Emeritus teaching part time at the University of Oklahoma. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from North Dakota State University in 1962 and 1963, respectively. He received the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University in 1967. He was a faculty member in Electrical Engineering at Penn State from 1967 to 1979, and a faculty member at the University of Oklahoma from 1979 to 1988. He was Head at the University of Alabama from 1988 to 1991 and Professor 1988 to 1996. He 1996 he was Chair and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering until 2007.
Dr. Bredeson's research interests are in the area of data communications, switching theory, digital systems, and microcontroller systems. His other professional interest is in the area of engineering education where he has been involved in introducing computer engineering degree at three universities. He co-authored a textbook in the area of microprocessors. Dr. Bredeson is a Fellow of the IEEE, awarded for his contributions in computer systems. He is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Kappa Phi. He was a program evaluator for ABET Engineering. He was on the Adcomm for the Education Society of IEEE. He was past President of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association and is currently Senior Past President of ECEDHA.
