Pritpal Singh, PhD
Villanova University
Pritpal Singh received the BSc (Hons.) degree in Physics from the University of Birmingham in England and the MS and PhD degrees in Applied Science/Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware. He joined the faculty of electrical engineering at Villanova University in 1984 and was promoted to Professor in 2005. He has been the chairman of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department since 2005. His research interests are in the areas of solar cell materials fabrication and characterization, battery and fuel cell modeling, and alternative energy systems.
During his academic career, he has participated in more than 40 funded research projects valued at more than $8 million of which his share is about $3 million. During this 26 year period he has graduated 1 Ph.D. (Villanova Engineering only started the PhD program six years ago), and over 40 MS students. He has also supervised over 200 students in senior design projects. He holds six issued patents. He has led several department and College initiatives including the development of a student exchange program with the University of Manchester, a complete revamping of the undergraduate electrical and computer engineering curricula, development of an Engineering Entrepreneurship minor program, and developed and taught a new freshman core course. He has taught over twenty different courses from freshman to second level graduate level and has been nominated several times for the university teaching award. He has served as the Branch Counselor for Villanova's IEEE student branch and was the Chairman of the Student Activities Committee for the Philadelphia Section of IEEE.
