Mid-Atlantic (MAECEDHA)

On July 10-11, 2009 the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in Villanova's College of Engineering hosted the annual meeting of the ECE Department Heads Association, Mid–Atlantic Region (MAECEDHA). Dean Gary Gabriele and Dr. Pritpal Singh, who is the MAECEDHA regional leader, welcomed guests at a kickoff dinner and reception Friday night. Dean Gabriele gave an after–dinner presentation on "Innovation in Engineering Education."

On Saturday, the department heads attended a series of presentations on various topics, including curricular initiatives, the College's K–12 outreach program, and an overview of the Humanitarian Technology Challenge, a joint initiative of the United Nations Foundation and IEEE. Dr. Moeness Amin, Director of the Center of Advanced Communications at Villanova University, gave a presentation on the Center's research activities.

A dinner was held on Saturday night and a closing breakfast held on Sunday morning. ECE chairs from 15 universities from the Mid–Atlantic region were present for the meeting. "The regional meetings are beneficial because they allow the department heads to learn about different approaches to ECE education and research and to explore opportunities for collaboration," Dr. Singh said.
