    Hi All!

I wanted to share how the Iowa State University College of Engineering and ECE Department tackled virtual commencement this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It seems to have been successful for our students and their families, as well as for the faculty and staff who participated.

This year, we held pre-commencement reception ceremonies online in the form a collection of videos streamed via a YouTube "live" premiere at a fixed time, and we asked all the students, families, faculty and staff to join the channel. A “live" chat box was available to all to post their comments while the videos were being streamed. We had hundreds of students, family members, faculty, and staff join the ceremony.

Behind the scenes -- our communications team asked students to submit video clips or photos ahead of time to Google Drive folders, and we pre-recorded messages from the chair and dean. We then compiled all the videos and created a departmental "pre-commencement virtual reception," which premiered on YouTube.

We also created PDF programs that families could download and print if they wanted, so they could have a commemorative piece from commencement.

Below are the links to the ECE pre-commencement ceremony and the university level graduation ceremony:

University Level Undergraduate Commencement held at 10:00am on Saturday 5/9/2020: https://virtual.graduatio...te.edu/undergraduate

Hope you are all doing well and getting through this time safely and in good health!

I have heard the many stories of student summer plans being disrupted in the realm of internships. TI wanted to address this learning gap by introducing a summer project opportunity. You can share with ECE students to apply online. www.ti.com/summerproject2020
