ECEDHA Announces 2025 Award Recipients Recognizing Excellence in Electrical and Computer Engineering Education
SANTA ANA PUEBLO, New Mexico — The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association (ECEDHA) announced the recipients of its 2025 annual awards, recognizing leadership, innovation, and impact in electrical and computer engineering (ECE) education. These awards recognize individuals for their contributions to curriculum development, program design, and service to the academic community.
2025 ECEDHA Award Recipients
ECE Technology Integration Award
Dr. George Pappas — University of Pennsylvania
Recognized for integrating artificial intelligence into the ECE curriculum and advancing a "depth-first" approach that enables earlier student specialization.
ECEDHA Innovative Program Award (Two Recipients)
Dr. Fawwaz T. Ulaby — University of Michigan
Honored for the Free Engineering Textbook (FET) initiative, which provides high-quality educational materials at no cost online and has generated more than $300 million in savings for students worldwide.
Dr. Peter Kinget — Columbia University
Recognized for developing the VLSI Design Lab Course, a hands-on program where students design, fabricate, and test integrated circuits, strengthening preparation for industry and research roles.
Robert M. Janowiak Outstanding Leadership & Service Award (Two Recipients)
Dr. Badri Roysam — University of Houston
Honored for longstanding leadership within ECEDHA and contributions to research, education, and community engagement in ECE.
Dr. Pamela Leigh-Mack — Virginia State University
Recognized for leadership in engineering education, accreditation, and national service, and for advancing collaboration across institutions.
"These award recipients reflect the strength and breadth of the ECE academic community," said John Janowiak, ECEDHA Executive Director. "Their work in curriculum, programs, and service continues to strengthen engineering education across institutions."
The awards were presented during the 2026 ECEDHA Annual Conference Awards Ceremony on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
