The Basics
How many years have you been with your current company? 3 years
First job? From teenage age and until I completed my studies, I worked in my parents’ local apple farming and fruit trade business, mainly as a saleswoman. My first job after graduation is my current job in Renesas’ global marketing communications team.
Where were you born? In a small town in the area of Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Where did you grow up? Where I was born.
Corporate Perspective
What is your corporation doing to ease the pain for universities during online learning?
We provided additional kits to partner universities who could not conduct their labs in group work anymore and needed to have one board per student for their home learning. Online technical support communities and documentation were there to help already before the pandemic and got even more important since then. Renesas now also offers more webinars, virtual events and a remote lab on the cloud open to anyone.
What are your future plans to assist in virtual learning, knowing it will be around for the foreseeable future?
We are developing a virtual student contest format that will teach students very useful skills related to microcontrollers and programming but does not require any hardware – and it will be fun! The development happens in close collaboration with a number of universities.
What has been your personal or your company’s biggest challenge, or most significant achievement since the pandemic?
Renesas has been handling the challenge of enabling everyone to work 100% remotely very well for more than one year now. My personal challenge and achievement has been keeping my sanity and staying optimistic. Exercising more than ever, fun at my job and my strong network of only physically distant family, friends and colleagues have helped a lot.
What do you want the academic community to know or understand about your company?
Our University Program is built to make educators’ lives easier thanks to ready-to-use lecture and lab materials and free kits to provide students with very useful hands-on skills. It is also backed by a strong technical support system and we are always here for any questions and open to support new project ideas.
Why is ECEDHA important to you or your organization?
ECEDHA is a unique organization in bringing academia and industry together for mutual benefit – there’s nothing like it in any other world region. It is vital for Renesas to engage with ECEDHA in order to build up connections with universities in North America.
If you had to choose another profession, what would you choose?
Journalist, linguist or singer in a band.
Was there a defining moment in your life that made you choose ECE as a profession?
As a student of Business Administration with a focus on international management and marketing, I was open to lots of very different industries at first. I discovered the technical world by luck when I took on a student job at Osram and quickly got excited about this kind of industry and work environment.
Beyond the Desk
What would you tell your 18-year-old self?
Don’t worry too much about having a very clear long-term plan for your future. Just do what feels right to you, keep an open mind, seize the opportunities that come your way and enjoy the ride!
Who/what inspires you?
All the women (and men!) who have been fighting for equal rights and human rights in the past centuries, decades and now.
Philosophy of life in a nutshell?
Life is simple, it’s just not easy.
Nobody is better than me when it comes to...
