The Basics
How many years have you been with your current company? 47 years
First job? Started a business using my Dad’s snowblower to clear people’s driveways when I was about 13 years old. My first technical job was doing logic design for Columbia records to help them automate 8 track tape production one summer during college. My first job at HP/Agilent/Keysight was microwave component design.
Where were you born? New Haven, CT
Where did you grow up? New Haven, then Ithaca NY, then Santa Rosa CA
Corporate Perspective
What is your corporation doing to ease the pain for universities during online learning?
We have a major program to enable remote labs that still give students learning on industry-used instruments, doing real-world tests (like they would have on-campus).
What are your future plans to assist in virtual learning, knowing it will be around for the foreseeable future?
We will continue our developments and improve what we already have so schools can invest in solutions that will improve both their on-campus and distance learning. We are collaborating with many Universities to ensure what we are doing is relevant and helpful to them.
What has been your personal or your company’s biggest challenge, or most significant achievement since the pandemic?
My company was able to adapt rapidly to the new working conditions imposed by the virus. For me, staying sane while working from home and replacing real travel and customer visits with virtual ones have been my biggest challenges.
What do you want the academic community to know or understand about your company?
We are here to help and we have very deep knowledge in measurements, teaching people how to do measurements, and related technologies. We also like to partner and collaborate with Universities.
Now that you are working more closely with the academic community, what have you learned that you did not know previously?
How fast academics can react and change their teaching methods has been a bit of a surprise. I always perceived that they were averse to changing curricula because of all the work required but I guess, if you have to change, you do.
Why is ECEDHA important to you or your organization?
ECEDHA members are our most important University customers. The ECEDHA forums and workshops provide us insight into how we can serve our customers better.
If you had to choose another profession, what would you choose?
Winemaking (I also do that)
Was there a defining moment in your life that made you choose ECE as a profession?
Not really but my Dad got me involved with amateur radio early in my life.

My wife! She is such a hard worker and good at so many things

Favorite movie? Why?
High Society with Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, and Louis Armstrong. It’s the music!
