Spotlight on the Workforce Development Panel

The 2025 ECEDHA Annual Conference in Norfolk, VA, promises to be an exciting convergence of innovation, leadership, and collaboration in ECE.  Among its many highlights, the Workforce Development Panel, scheduled for Monday, March 24, 2025, will shine a spotlight on key organizations driving the future of the ECE workforce. From licensing pathways to veteran support and community engagement, this panel showcases diverse strategies for cultivating and empowering the next generation of ECE professionals.

The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academic preparation and professional readiness. The organization facilitates workforce development by offering licensing exams tailored to students on the cusp of graduation. By earning the Engineer Intern (EI) designation, students set themselves on a clear path toward professional licensure, enhancing their employability and signaling their commitment to excellence in the field. During the panel, we will learn how their programs provide students with the tools to confidently enter the workforce, prepared for the challenges and opportunities of professional engineering.

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) brings a unique perspective to workforce development by focusing on veterans and military personnel transitioning to civilian careers. SAME provides targeted support for military members pursuing ECE degrees, from mentorship programs to scholarships and career placement services. By leveraging their networks and industry connections, SAME helps veterans translate their technical and leadership skills into fulfilling careers in engineering. Attendees of the panel will learn more about SAME's initiatives and how they are creating pathways to success for a vital segment of the ECE workforce.

NASA's Langley Research Center, located near the conference site in Hampton, VA, exemplifies the power of community-driven workforce development. Langley’s programs are designed to involve the entire community, offering internships and hands-on research opportunities that prepare students for impactful roles in ECE. These initiatives not only enhance technical expertise but also instill a spirit of innovation and collaboration. From fostering partnerships with local educational institutions to providing real-world research experiences, NASA Langley demonstrates how a holistic approach can cultivate a thriving pipeline of ECE professionals ready to tackle tomorrow's challenges.

Synopsys, a global leader in electronic design automation and semiconductor IP, is making significant contributions to workforce development through its innovative programs. By partnering with academic institutions, Synopsys helps bridge the gap between education and industry needs, equipping students with the skills required for careers in semiconductor design and development. Their initiatives include curriculum support, hands-on training with industry-standard tools, and internship opportunities that prepare students for real-world challenges. During the panel, we will learn about their strategies for nurturing talent and driving growth within the semiconductor ecosystem, an essential component of the ECE workforce.

This panel offers attendees the chance to hear firsthand how these organizations are shaping the future of the ECE workforce. Mark your calendar for Monday, March 24, 2025, and join us at the Hilton Norfolk the Main to explore how we can collectively empower the next generation of ECE professionals.
